What types of conditions do environmental medicine programs investigate?
The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences of the National Institutes of Health has identified the following conditions as being caused or affected by environmental factors. These, and other, conditions are under investigation for information that will lead to new evaluation procedures, prevention protocols, and treatment plans.

- Alzheimer's disease and other neurological disorders
- immune deficiency diseases
- lead poisoning
- lung diseases
