Practices range in size from a single physician to a group of eight physicians, serving approximately 350,000 patients. SJMMG provides medical care in accordance with the mission of St. John's Mercy and the Sisters of Mercy Health System: to deliver quality health care with an emphasis on the poor and underserved. SJMMG physicians accept Medicare assignment, and participate in most major insurance plans, including commercial, Medicaid, Medicare risk, HMOs, and PPOs. SJMMG physicians have admitting privileges with at least one St. John's Mercy hospital, including (but not limited to) St. John's Mercy Medical Center and St. John's Mercy Hospital. The information for individual physicians on this Web site lists the insurance plans they accept and the hospitals to which they admit patients.

SJMMG has a strong commitment to preventive health and wellness. Our practices accept new patients enrolled with the health plans in which we participate. Our physicians manage a comprehensive spectrum of medical care for SJMMG patients, including hospitalizations, skilled nursing facilities, and outpatient care.

SJMMG also has a division, Mercy Health Research, which participates in nationwide research studies and trials with leading pharmaceutical companies. Timothy Smith, MD, FACP, RPh, a board certified internal medicine physician, is the Director of this division. Examples of recent studies include:

  • Migraine and cluster headache trials
  • Hypertension trials
  • Type II Diabetes trials
  • Osteoarthritis trials.

Call (314) 251-8893 if you or someone you know is interested in participating in a study. Participation typically includes testing, medication and supplies related to the medical condition studied.
