Clinical Measures:  Cholesterol Testing

What we measured:  Based on representative sample of patient charts from all physicians, SJMMG looked at patients’ LDL levels, the level of “bad” cholesterol in their blood.  Elevated levels of LDL cholesterol are associated with an increased risk of coronary heart disease.

Both NCQA certification programs—for patients with diabetes and the “heart/stroke” program for patients with coronary artery disease (CAD)—specify a goal LDL level of less than 100mg/dl.  Again, the NCQA measures the percentage of patients who met this standard nationally, based on a representative sample of patient charts.  SJMMG’s overall results exceed those of both NCQA programs.
