About the Childbirth Center

When your day arrives, you will be escorted to one of our newly renovated suites that allow families to experience the miracle of birth in a home-like setting. There, our team of highly trained specialists will care for you and your baby.

Our registered nurses are on the floor 24 hours a day and are assisted by licensed practical nurses, nurse aides and other support staff.

Prenatal Care
St. John's Mercy Hospital also offers Mercy Women and Children's Health Services, a prenatal and pediatric clinic that provides quality care for those who are on Medicaid or are uninsured. Some patients may qualify for a sliding-scale fee that provides care at a reduced rate.

Technology
St. John's Mercy Childbirth Center is equipped with advanced technology - including ultrasound sonograms and fetal heart monitors - that can help your physician determine the well-being of your baby during pregnancy. During the labor process, a central system is available to monitor contractions and fetal heart rate without imposing on your privacy.

24-Hour Epidural Service
With 24-hour anest hesiology available, mothers-to-be and their physicians have the option to manage labor anytime, day or night, to make the birthing process more comfortable.

Cesarean Delivery
St. John's Mercy Hospital is equipped to handle "C" section deliveries, whether they are planned or necessitated by an emergency. The delivery will be performed in a specially equipped surgery suite located in the Mercy Childbirth Center.

For Safety's Sake
For the safety of your baby, moms and newborns receive an identification bracelet immediately following delivery. The identification is checked each time an infant leaves the nursery. The Mercy Childbirth Center maintains a security system that helps ensure a safe and secure environment for your new baby.

Rooms
Our attractively decorated labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum suites were designed with your comfort in mind. Each suite is equipped with a bed, table and chairs, a glider/recliner and a private bath with shower to provide you with all the comforts of home. A television, VCR and cassette/ CD stereo system will be available for use in your room during your entire stay. Plenty of storage space for your personal belongings is provided.

TLC Nursery
St. John's Mercy Hospital operates a Level 1 nursery designed to provide immediate treatment and assessment of your baby upon delivery.

Your baby will receive an abundance of tender, loving care in our nursery, conveniently located in the Mercy Childbirth Center. However, we know you may want to spend time getting to know your new arrival. If you prefer to keep your baby with you, one of our nurses will regularly check on your baby.

Home Support
We want to know how you and your baby are doing. Once you are home, expect a call from one of the nurses at St. John's Mercy. Nurses are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to answer questions about your recovery as well as your baby's growth and development. Call 636-239-8500 with your questions or concerns.
