Prenatal and Gynecological Services

Our Mission
More than 125 years ago, the Sisters of Mercy began their mission of providing health care, with a special dedication to caring for mothers, babies and children. At St. John's Mercy Hospital, our Mercy Women's Health Services department continues the mission of caring for women of all ages before and during pregnancy and after childbirth. Our complete range of prenatal and women's health care services is provided by highly qualified, experienced medical professionals who offer personalized care for all our patients. We are committed to providing quality services for all patients, including those who are on Medicaid or are uninsured.

Prenatal Services
St. John’s Mercy Hospital, in partnership with St. John’s Mercy Medical Center, offers real-time, person-to-person consultations with genetic counselors and maternal-fetal-specialists via web camera. Women with high-risk or potentially high-risk pregnancies may take their ultrasounds at St. John’s Mercy Hospital and have the images transferred to the Perinatal Center at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center. The images are reviewed by the maternal-fetal specialist there and then discussed with the patient at St. John’s Mercy Hospital via web cam. Additionally, genetic counselors can review a patient’s family history to determine if there are risk factors to the pregnancy and explain the various testing options available to them so that they can make informed decisions. Genetic counselors talk to patients about the detection rates for these tests, what conditions are tested for and any possible risks. Web consultations are secure and private.

Gynecological Services
Women have specialized health care needs throughout their lives, not just during pregnancy. After puberty, during childbearing years and even after menopause, it's important for women to have annual checkups. Mercy Women's Health Services offers well-woman care and screenings, as well as treatment and other services to meet your health care needs. Our preventive care is designed to keep you from developing a problem, or to diagnose, treat and prevent a problem from progressing or becoming worse.
