Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

When you’re pregnant, you spend time preparing for labor and anticipating the joy of having your baby home with your family. In the midst of the excitement and anticipation, it is difficult to consider problems that can occur during your pregnancy or around the time of your baby's birth.

At St. John’s Mercy Childbirth Center, we have the staff and facilities to care for you and your baby in any medical situation. Our experienced neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, and staff nurses are available 24 hours a day in our Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to give premature or critically ill babies immediate special care.

Photo of baby in NICU As the only Level Ill NICU in St. Louis County, St. John’s Mercy’s NICU is a valued and trusted resource for families. Because our NICU located on the obstetrics floor next to our labor, delivery and recovery (LDR) suitesand Cesarean-section rooms,

you'll have peace of mind knowing you and your baby won’t be far apart in the event that NICU care is needed. Your baby will be closely monitored and will receive personal care and attention around the clock, from the moment of delivery.

Touching your baby is essential during those first important days after birth. If NICU care is required, we encourage you and your family to spend time with your baby in the unit. Our staff is always ready to answer your questions and offer support.

Additional Support for Families with Babies in our NICU
