If you are at risk
for complications during a future pregnancy, you may choose to consult
with a maternal-fetal medicine specialist or geneticist before you conceive.
Women with recurrent pregnancy loss, diabetes, hypertension, or a medical
history of still births, preterm labor, premature rupture of membranes,
or other conditions also may seek information, support or evaluation as
part of planning for pregnancy.
Families with risk
factors for genetic complications may request additional testing before
pregnancy or the birth of a baby. The Genetics Division of the Obstetrics
department at St. John's Mercy offers complete evaluation, diagnostic
testing and counseling for families at risk.
