Velopharyngeal Function Team
The Velopharyngeal Function Team consists of pediatric specialists who have extensive experience and training with evaluating and managing speech disorders due to velopharyngeal dysfunction. The interdisciplinary team includes otolaryngology, plastic surgery and speech/language pathology. The initial diagnostic evaluation consists of perceptual speech evaluation with one or both forms of velopharyngeal imaging (nasoendoscopy, videofluoroscopy). The examinations are archived on audio-video media and then reviewed by the team for treatment recommendations. Interval and post-intervention evaluations are customized as needed.
If you have a child, or patient, with possible velopharyngeal dysfunction and would like to be seen by the specialists at St. John’s Mercy please contact Dana Kiley, cleft-craniofacial team coordinator, at 314-251-6581. Additional information about velopharyngeal dysfunction, its evaluation and management, can be found at Kid’s Plastic Surgery.
