Diabetes Services
St. John's Mercy offers coordinated care for people with diabetes through
education and nutrition counseling. A certified nurse educator, a registered
dietitian and a social worker work together to assist the patient in management
of their disease. The nurse educator provides instruction on self-monitoring
of blood glucose, insulin administration, oral agents, exercise and all of
the issues relating to the management of diabetes. The dietitian provides nutrition
counseling for the patient and family. For an appointment with the diabetes

Gestational Diabetes Management
Program
Basic diabetes management is taught by a certified diabetes nurse educator
and a registered dietitian. An individual diet and instruction regarding self-monitoring
of blood glucose is provided. Insulin administration is taught on physician

Diabetes Foot Care Center
A treatment team, composed of physicians, a foot care nurse, a physical therapist,
a diabetes educator and a pedorthotist, provides an integrated approach to diabetic
foot care and to specific foot problems. Custom-made orthotic foot wear is available.

Diabetes Support Group (Adult)
Helps patients, families and friends learn to deal with diabetes. No charge.
