Home Health Program

Whenever possible, patients prefer to receive care in the most convenient and comfortable environment of all -- their own home. St. John's Mercy Health Services' home-based care programs are an extension of St. John's Mercy's commitment to provide compassionate care to the St. Louis community. Our home health services include:

St. John's Mercy Home Care
For patients on the mend who still need nursing, St. John's Mercy Home Care's trained nurses and therapists provide quality care in the areas of cardiopulmonary, orthopedics, rehabilitation, oncology, wound/ostomy and intravenous therapy. Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance companies cover skilled care when a patient requires medical attention at home under the supervision of a physician.
For more information, call 1-888-296-6389 or 314-729-4500.

Palliative Care
The focus of palliative care is to reduce symptom severity in situations where a disease is being managed, or during treatments such as chemotherapy. Palliative care helps provide pain relief, symptom management and nutritional care. The palliative care team offers emotional and spiritual support to the patient and family. For more information, call 1-888-296-6389 or 314-729-4500.

St. John's Mercy Hospice
When treatment of a terminal illness is no longer being sought, hospice care can help make sure a patient's last days of life are spent in comfort. Chaplains, nurses, physicians, social workers and home health aides may be involved in hospice care. St. John's Mercy Hospice team members are available round the clock to care for the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of patients with terminal illnesses. Types of services include:

  • Pain management and control of symptoms
  • Emotional and spiritual support
  • Volunteers for companionship, support and respite care
  • Coordinated nursing care at home through visiting nurses
  • Admission to a St. John's Mercy hospital for symptom control when ordered by a personal physician.

Many hospice patients receive care in their own homes, skilled nursing facilities or retirement communities. For more information about St. John's Mercy Hospice, call 314-729-4400.

St. John's Mercy Home Infusion Therapy
Infusion therapy is provided in conjunction with home health, palliative and hospice services. Registered infusion nurses who specialize in intravenous drug therapies for pain or infection management come to the home to administer the therapy and teach family members to safely care for their loved ones. Therapy can be delivered on a continuous or intermittent basis with physician orders. For more information, call 314-506-6050.
