Pediatric ophthalmology is an integral part of a comprehensive pediatric
program. Pediatric ophthalmologists (eye doctors),
are a valuable resource for newborns with eye problems due
to premature births or birth defects. They also provide care
for childhood eye problems such as refractive errors (nearsighted,
farsighted, astigmatism), strabismus (misalignment) and
amblyopia or “lazy eye.” In addition, they diagnose and
treat tear duct obstructions, cataracts and glaucoma
and a number of other eye conditions that can occur in children.
