Indications for Counseling

  • If you have a blood test or ultrasound that shows your baby has an increased chance to have a birth defect.
  • You will be 35 years of age or older when your baby is due (Advanced Maternal Age).
  • Someone in your family has a genetic condition such as cystic fibrosis or hemophilia, or a birth defect such as a h ole in the heart.
  • Your health care provider has recommended genetic testing.
  • You have had two or more pregnancy losses of unknown cause.
  • You or someone in your family has had a genetic test come back positive.
  • You or your healthcare provider is concerned about an exposure (such as certain medications, chemicals or infections) during your pregnancy.
