Emergency Department
St.
John’s Mercy Medical Center operates
the only Level I Trauma Center in St. Louis County. (Level I centers represent
large urban hospitals that commit a significant amount of resources to research
in improving care of traumatized patients.) The Medical Center handles a major
share of the area's trauma cases and provides medical direction for six fire/ambulance
districts. Our Emergency department staff diagnoses and treats major and minor
traumatic and medical emergencies, providing advanced care 24 hours a day,
every day.
The new Emergency
Department features:
- Expanded ambulance bay with capacity for five ambulances
- Twenty-four adult treatment
rooms, six adult trauma rooms
- Eight pediatric treatment
rooms, four pediatric trauma rooms
- An area designated for
minor injuries and illnesses with six rooms.
- Separate adult and pediatric triage and waiting areas
- State-of-the-art treatment
areas and centrally-located imaging services
- An enlarged helipad
with space for several helicopters
