Become a Volunteer in Washington

Want to join our team of volunteers? Please call or e-mail Dee Coppeans, Manager of Volunteer Services, at 636-239-8272 to schedule a volunteer placement interview.

We will meet with you to explore your interests and your personal goals regarding volunteering at St. John’s Mercy Hospital. Together, we will discuss the various volunteer opportunities and ways that your interests and goals can be met.

You will be asked to complete an application form, available on this site. After you are accepted as a volunteer, you will be asked to:

  • Purchase a volunteer jacket or vest (under $16);
  • Obtain two tuberculosis skin tests and a drug test (available at no charge through St. John's Mercy Corporate Health);
  • Attend a volunteer orientation;
  • Train in your selected area.

Prior to beginning volunteer service, every volunteer is required to attend an orientation to become familiar with St. John’s Mercy Hospital and the Volunteer Program. Topics include:

  • An overview of our mission and Mercy values
  • An introduction to the Hospital and tour of the facility
  • Infection control
  • Volunteer responsibilities
  • Dress codes
  • Hospital policies
  • Hospital safety and codes
  • Professional ethics
  • Patient confidentiality (HIPAA)
  • Volunteer benefits, awards and services

Volunteer Service at St. John’s Mercy Hospital is a vital component of our hospital operations. We take pride in the fact that we are selective in making volunteer placement decisions. Along with our co-workers, volunteers are held to high standards of performance.

We encourage you to apply. We are always looking for more great volunteers. Please give us a call at 636-239-8272 or e-mail us so that we can begin working together!
