Auxiliary Activities
Funds generated by the Auxiliary’s annual fundraising events and proceeds from
the Gift Shop have supported special Hospital
projects and equipment purchases. With these funds, the Auxiliary has helped
improve the lives of countless patients, their families, visitors to the Hospital
and many other people in the community. Auxiliary programs include:
ALIVE Cell Phone Collection
Alzheimer’s
Support Group: A free session for people
in the community held on the 3rd Monday of each month to assist the
needs and concerns of caretakers. The support group includes a reference
library, information
for patient families and Hospital staff and participation in the planning
committee of the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk.
SART (Sexual
Assault Response Team): A team of trained volunteers that help facilitate
the understanding of the medical process and police intervention process
in a safe non-judgmental manner. This team is available 24 hours a day
to be liaisons for sexually abused victims who come to the Emergency Department for care.
Blood drive

Legislative
Committee: Attend legislative sessions
twice a year to discuss hospital and health care concerns.
Mercy Monitor:
Visit with families and residents to assess the need for an in-home monitor
safety system. Install
units
for those who qualify.
Back Packs for
Kids:
Collect items and assemble back packs for kids of all ages who enter the
foster care system
in an emergency.
Crafts:
Make items for meal trays for patients, Meals on Wheels participants, and
Auxiliary members in nursing
homes during
the holidays.
Fair Parade:
Help build and ride on the float in the Washington Town & Country
Fair parade.
Nursing Home
Visits:
Visit past and present Auxiliary members in nursing homes.
Pillow Program:
Sew pillows for surgery patients.
Eye for an Eye
Program:
Collect eyeglasses for Lions Club International.
CLAIM Program:
Attend training and assist patients and families with concerns regarding
Medicare
coverage.
This program is supported and volunteers
are trained through the Missouri Department of
Insurance
Financial Institutions and Professional Registration.
Volunteers have
helped patients save thousands of
dollars through these services.
Organ Tissue
Donations:
Speak at area high school assemblies about the importance
of being
an organ
donor and
how students can signup.
Baby Caps for Newborns:
Knit and crochet patterns are available to make baby
hats
in the comfort
of your own
home.
Warm and Fuzzy Christmas for Loving Hearts Outreach:
Help collect or make hats and scarves for
this important organization.
Reach to Recovery:
Visit with patients who have had a mastectomy, providing them with support
towards recovery. (Breast cancer support).
