Mercy Medical Center Approved as Associate NACHRI Member – 2005
The National Association of Children’s
Hospitals and Related Institutions (NACHRI) approved a change in St. John’s Mercy Medical Center’s membership from supporter
to associate. NACHRI is a not-for-profit membership organization of children’s
hospitals committed to the promotion of excellence in health care to children.
With more than 160 members, associates and supporters, NACHRI works to ensure
children’s access to health care and the continuing ability of children’s hospitals
to provide service needed by children.
Achieving associate membership
gives official recognition to the depth and scope of pediatric services provided
at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center.
NACHRI
Children’s Hospitals Photo Exhibit – 2005 and 2006
In a NACHRI-sponsored a contest of art and photos of children’s hospitals,
St. John’s Mercy was chosen from over 250 entries to have a photo and two
pieces of original art work included in the 2005 Children’s Hospitals Photo
Exhibit.
This exhibit emphasizes the focus on quality in children’s hospitals and
their effort to reach out to provide for all children.
St. John’s Mercy submitted several photographs of pediatric nurses taking
care of patients and two pieces of original artwork from patients of Dr. Bob
Bergamini and Dr. Rob Hanson of the Pediatric Cancer and Hematology Center
at the David C. Pratt Cancer Center. The first painting represented a fairy
that the patient imagined during her radiation therapy. The second painting
was from a four year old who represented her family as flowers. She stated
“We are a happy family. Whenever we walk past this picture, my family will
know that I love them.”
The exhibit was unveiled at the NACHRI Spring Conference in New Orleans in
early March 2005. Representatives from St. John’s Mercy were recognized at
a special reception. The exhibit then traveled to Capitol Hill and around the
nation. As part of the nationwide tour, the exhibit was on display in the lobby
of St. John’s Mercy Medical Center throughout April 2006.
