David C. Pratt Cancer Center Recognized for Complex, Rare Cancer Care

The David C. Pratt Cancer Center at St. John’s Mercy has been named a Blue Distinction ® Center for Complex and Rare Cancers by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Missouri. Only two cancer centers in Missouri and 86 centers nationwide have been recognized with this designation.

The designation is designed to help patients with complex and rare cancers (which comprise about 15 percent of new cancer cases each year) find quality care from facilities that have the expertise to treat their particular form of cancer. The David C. Pratt Cancer Center was selected as a Blue Distinction ® Center based on the following criteria:

• Exceeding the volume threshold for annual surgical cases involving complex and rare cancers
• Using a multidisciplinary team approach, including subspecialty-trained teams for complex and rare cancers
• Providing ongoing quality management and improvement programs for cancer care
• Demonstrating an ongoing commitment to data collection and clinical research.
