St. John’s Mercy Volunteer Nurse Program Receives National and State Awards

St. John’s Mercy Medical Center’s Volunteer Nurse Program received the 2007 national Extraordinary Volunteer Program Award from the American Society of Directors of Volunteer Services (ASDVS), part of the American Hospital Association (AHA), and the state Excellence Award for Innovative Volunteer Programs from the Missouri Association of Directors of Volunteer Services (MADVS) of the Missouri Hospital Association (MHA).

St. John’s Mercy Volunteer Nurses help provide direct one-on-one patient care in the hospital. Currently, the program has 30 Volunteer Nurses who each volunteer 4-6 hours a week. Typically, these volunteers are retired RNs and LPNs who still want to offer their services for patient care, or are nurses who have been away from nursing and would like to get back into their profession.
