St. John's
Mercy Medical Center Auxiliary
The
Auxiliary
St. John’s Mercy
Medical Center Auxiliary welcomes everyone who would like to blend their unique
qualities and skills to help St. John’s Mercy promote the health and welfare
of the community.
Our Auxiliary
is a charitable organization of women and men dedicated to bringing the mission
of St. John’s Mercy to life within the Medical
Center and throughout the St. Louis area.
What Does
an Auxilian Do?
You can individualize your level of involvement to fit your needs. Maybe you’d
like to volunteer a few hours a year to help with a special event, or to chair
a committee, or to serve in an elected leadership office. Or maybe you’d like
to use your gardening or wallpaper skills to spruce up one of our neighborhood
clinics.
Do you love
art? Then maybe you’d like to get involved with our
Healing Through the Arts program, in which persons with cancer create art
objects as part of their healing process.
There are
many ways you can become involved.
Auxiliary
Activities
Funds generated by the Auxiliary’s annual fundraising events and proceeds from
the Mercy Gift Shop, sponsored by the Auxiliary, have supported special Medical
Center projects and equipment purchases. With these funds, the Auxiliary has
helped improve the lives of countless patients, their families, visitors to
the Medical Center, and many people who have relocated to St. Louis from other
countries. Auxiliary programs include:
- Mercy Medical Group
and Auxiliary Scholarship Fund, offering 20 scholarships year to area
students.
- Service projects
to help improve the community, St. John’s Mercy Neighborhood Ministry in
South St. Louis, St. John’s Mercy clinics, and the Medical Center.
- Mercy Gift Shop,
located in the Medical Center, donates its proceeds to provide capital to
fund Auxiliary programs and projects.
- Volunteer RN
Program at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center, was initiated by the Auxiliary.
- “Healing Through the
Arts,” a program of Auxiliary-sponsored patient workshops that combine
art and healing for patients at the Medical Center’s David C. Pratt Cancer
Center.
- Support of “Catherine’s
Closet,” through which donations of new clothing go to patients in need.
- Purchasing medical
and medical service equipment for hospital departments to improve services
to patients.
- Supplying furniture
in the ICU visitor and family waiting room to provide comfortable accommodations
for visitors and families.
- Developing and hosting
fundraising activities that have included benefit polo matches,
dances, parties, special events and luncheons, with more exciting events
planned.
