CYNTHIA S. BERNARD, CNM, MSN

Ms. Bernard is a member of the American College of Nurse-Midwives and chairperson of the Greater St. Louis chapter. She has practiced full scope midwifery, including in hospital and out of hospital births. Most of her practice as a nurse midwife has been in Missouri and Illinois, with one year in Maryland. She has been adjunct faculty at the University of Illinois, University of Missouri, University of Maryland and St. Louis University.

Ms. Bernard's special interests include alternative therapies, alternative birthing environments, patient education and precepting advanced practice nurses in their education programs.

JOAN H. KELLEHER, CNM, MSN

Ms. Borden is Board certified by the American College of Nurse Midwifes and a member of the College. She has practiced full scope midwifery in a private Atlanta practice for the past seventeen years. Ms. Borden joined the St. John's Mercy Midwifery Service in 2002. She has been an adjunct faculty for Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and University of North Alabama.

Ms. Borden's special interests include clinical gynecology, holistic medicine, and international health care for woman and world wide wildlife preservation.

Master of Science in Nursing/Midwifery Specialty - Emory University
License: Missouri, Georgia, and Alabama



KATHY EASTWOOD, CNM

Ms. Eastood completed her basic nursing at Wishard Memorial Hospital of Nursing in Indianapolis, Indiana. From there she traveled to Zimbabwe and Rhodesia to deliver well baby care throughout clinics in the bush for three years.

Ms. Eastwood returned to the U.S. with plans of becoming a Nurse Midwife. She moved to Hyden, Kentucky to study at the Frontier School of Family Nursing and Nurse Midwifery. She felt the curriculum there offered the best training for those practicing in a developing country.

After Midwifery School, Ms. Eastwood practiced in Harlingen, Texas for a year before returning to Zimbabwe where she stayed for ten years. Since returning to the U.S. twelve years ago, she has worked in the St. Louis area and was one of the first midwives to come to St. Johns Mercy Medical Center in 1999.



LAURA PERREIRA, CNM, MSN

Ms. Perreira is a native of California, where she obtained her Certified Nurse Midwife Certificate and a Master's Degree in Nursing. She joined St. John's Midwifery Program in 2000. She is a member of the American College of Nurse Midwives.

Ms. Perreira's special interests include teen pregnancy and domestic violence issues.

Education: Master's Degree in Nursing - California State University, Long Beach
License: Missouri and California



KARL PETERSON, CNM, MSN

Mr. Peterson is a native of Detroit, Michigan. Prior to joining the St. John's Midwifery Service and Women's Evaluation Unit, he enjoyed full scope midwifery and a great deal of travel within the United States Air Force. He is a member of the American College of Nurse Midwives and the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses.

Mr. Peterson's special interests include obstetrics, exercise, teaching and training of medical and midwifery students. Further involvement in labor and the family is of special interest.

License: Missouri, Alaska, Colorado



LISA PORTHOUSE, CNM, MSN

Ms. Porthouse is the Nurse Midwife Program Director for St. John's Mercy Medical Center. She is Board certified by the American College of Nurse Midwives where the remains a member. Ms. Porthouse has been adjunct faculty for the University of Chicago, Washington University, and Saint Louis University.

Ms. Porthouse 's special interests include nursing education and clinical training of nurses, medical students and resident physicians.
