Protected Time
The residents are protected
from all clinical and surgical responsibilities during
didactics. Grand
Rounds occur at 8 a.m. every Wednesday and are composed
of both local and national speakers. Morbidity and
Mortality conferences for Gynecology and Obstetrics
occur on the last and first Wednesdays of each month, respectively.
Lectures occur Monday through Thursday from 4 to 5 p.m. and are a
highly varied series including formal training in obstetrics, gynecology,
genetics, endocrinology and infertility, pathology, and oncology.
Workshops also occur during this time and include things such as surgical
introduction to knot tying and surgical instruments, communication
seminars, and practice development topics.
This educational time also serves
a secondary role of creating a sense of camaraderie
within the resident physicians. Here is an opportunity for the great majority of
residents to be together in a relaxed and supportive environment.
Monthly resident meetings occur
with the program director. Topics can include organizational
issues regarding the residency, opportunities for personal improvement,
and even planning for resident recruitment. This is also a time
for direct feedback to the program director. The residents value this
time and truly feel it is beneficial at both an academic and personal
level.
