St. John’s Mercy Medical Center hosted an Open House for nursing students from area schools on Saturday, September 15, 2001. "We had great participation and support from Public Relations, Nutrition Services, nurse managers, clinical supervisors, clinicians, educators, Human Resources, and Organizational Development in the coordination and
operation of this event. Thanks to everyone who helped," said Kim Prescott, RN, BSN.

During the course of the day 40 students filtered through the Medical Center to talk with nurses and managers from many clinical departments. Human Resources and Organizational Development presented information on employment and financial programs to help support education, including scholarships, tuition reimbursement and the loan forgiveness program.

Door prizes were awarded to many of the attendees. Prizes included Littmann stethoscopes, NCLEX books and Critter Collars for stethoscopes. Special thanks to Life Uniform for donating several of the stethoscopes. Two current co-workers were among the winners: Dawn Strautmen, PCT in the Medical/Surgical ICU, won a Littmann stethoscope, and Patty McClure, PCT in the Coronary Care Unit, won an NCLEX book.
